The Legend of the Petra Ship
รายละเอียด
Petra National Park is a place known for its legendary "Petra Islands," especially the "Petra Island," which, when viewed from a distance, resembles a sinking merchant ship. The story passed down through generations says that the Petra Islands were formed as a result of sorrow and a curse from a family that once lived in the area.
Long ago, there was a poor family consisting of Grandpa Pood, Grandma Tong, and their son. One day, a merchant ship from Sairburi arrived at the shore with goods for trade. The son of Grandpa Pood and Grandma Tong went to look at the merchandise, just like everyone else. When the merchant saw the boy, he felt sympathy and invited him to live with him in Sairburi.
The boy worked diligently for the merchant, and eventually, the Lord of Sairburi noticed him and took him in as his adopted son. The Lord treated the boy very well, and over time, the boy forgot his roots and where he came from.
When the boy grew older and reached the age to marry, the Lord arranged for him to marry his own daughter. After the wedding, the wife expressed a desire to visit her husband's parents, so she persuaded him to go back to his homeland. Eventually, the husband agreed and prepared a large merchant ship for the journey back home with his wife.
On the day of their arrival, the couple sailed to the mouth of the river near his hometown. When Grandpa Pood and Grandma Tong saw their son return after so many years, they were overjoyed. However, when the son saw them, he refused to recognize them and felt ashamed of his poor parents. Grandpa Pood and Grandma Tong were heartbroken. They placed a roast pig, which they had prepared for the visit, at the bow of the boat and prayed, "If this is truly our son, may he not leave the harbor."
As soon as the curse was spoken, a violent storm suddenly arose. The wind howled and the merchant ship of the son and his wife was capsized into the sea. All the belongings and treasures on board were scattered and transformed into various islands in the area, such as Pig Island (from the roast pig), Petra Island (from the ship), and other islands like Egg Island, Banana Island, Grandpa Stone Island, Grandma Stone Island, and Chicken Island.
This legend teaches us the importance of gratitude and the love we should have for our parents. No matter how successful we become in life, we should never forget where we came from.
