Phan Yod Stone Fortress: A Natural Bastion and the Traces of Time
รายละเอียด
The Phan Yod Stone Fortress is located on Ko Khao Yai Island within Mu Koh Petra National Park, part of the Satun Geopark, which was recognized by UNESCO as Thailand's first "Global Geopark" in 2018. This stunning natural wonder not only captivates with its beauty but also tells a fascinating geological history.
The Phan Yod Stone Fortress is about 450 million years old and is a large Ordovician Limestone mountain island situated just off the shore. Its unique landscape features a circular ridge of limestone that forms a natural fortress, adding to its grandeur. The formation of the fortress is believed to be the result of underground water erosion, which gradually dissolved the limestone, creating expanding cavities. Over time, these limestone formations were uplifted into mountains, and the roofs of the cavities were eroded until they became too thin to support the weight, causing the ground to collapse and form sinkholes within the mountain.
During low tide, visitors can row a boat through the stone passages to witness the breathtaking beauty of Phan Yod Stone Fortress up close. The serene atmosphere and awe-inspiring surroundings offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those seeking to connect with nature's wonders.
